Choose Kyoto when the room needs the smaller tall-headboard crib and a narrower matching dresser. Choose Taylor when the taller, broader convertible crib and its channel-tufted panel are worth the extra floor and wall presence. Natart lists Kyoto at 55 x 31 x 45 inches and Taylor at 60 x 33 x 49 inches. Taylor therefore adds five inches of length, two inches of depth and four inches of height.
Both are Natart convertible crib families, both use three mattress-support heights, and both have later toddler, daybed and double-bed paths. The deciding differences are not the “5-in-1” label. They are the room footprint, headboard treatment, collection storage and the separate parts required for later configurations.

Natart publishes the dimensions, materials and configuration paths on its Kyoto convertible crib and Taylor convertible crib pages. Conversion accessories are separate model-specific pieces, so include them in the long-term plan rather than assuming they are packed with the crib.
Choose Kyoto when five inches changes the plan
The Kyoto 5-in-1 Convertible Crib with Upholstered Panel is the more compact of these two tall-headboard cribs. A five-inch length difference is enough to matter when the crib shares a wall with a closet casing, doorway or dresser. Its 31-inch depth also gives back two inches compared with Taylor.
Do not treat those differences as automatic clearance. Tape the full 55-by-31-inch rectangle on the floor, then place the 46-by-20-inch Kyoto dresser rectangle where it would actually stand. Walk from the doorway to both long sides of the crib and open the closet door. A compact crib only solves the room if the rest of the collection still leaves a usable route.
Kyoto is offered with two distinct upholstered treatments. Model 12505P96 has a caramel bonded-leather panel, while model 12505P97 uses Talc linen weave. The leather-panel Kyoto crib is the relevant choice here; a product described only as “upholstered” is not enough to identify which panel will arrive.
Choose Taylor when the taller headboard is intentional
The Taylor 5-in-1 Convertible Crib with Channel-Tufted Panel is 60 inches long, 33 inches deep and 49 inches high. That makes it visually and physically larger than Kyoto. The channel-tufted panel comes in Natart's Grey or Talc linen weave, paired with the current Taylor wood finishes.
Taylor is the stronger choice when the household genuinely wants the taller headboard and the room already passes the 60-by-33-inch floor test. It is not the right trade simply because a substantial crib looks impressive in a product photo. Add the 48-by-21-inch Taylor Double Dresser or the 61-by-21-inch Taylor King Dresser to the tape plan before choosing a coordinated set.
If you like the Taylor collection but the tall convertible frame crowds the room, the Taylor Island Crib is a materially different alternative. Natart lists it at 54 x 29 x 34 inches and gives it a toddler-bed and daybed path rather than the convertible model's double-bed path. It exchanges the high headboard and full-bed future for a smaller, open-sided crib form.
The headboard material changes care, not sleep safety
Kyoto's compared panel is bonded leather; Taylor's is a channel-tufted linen weave. That is a touch, appearance and maintenance decision. It does not make one crib safer, more comfortable for the baby, or better for sleep. The infant sleep surface remains the mattress and fitted sheet inside the crib.
For either upholstered headboard, ask one practical question before choosing a finish: can the household follow the exact care directions for that panel when dust or a spill reaches it? Do not transfer wood-cleaning advice to upholstery or improvise with a strong household cleaner. If easy wipe-down is the top priority, compare the non-upholstered Taylor convertible crib rather than assuming every panel cleans the same way.
Do not count five configurations as five included packages
“5-in-1” describes the maker's listed configuration path; it does not mean every rail and footboard is in the crib carton. Natart gives separate model numbers to the toddler gate, low-profile footboard and double-bed conversion rails in both collections. Build a stage plan before purchase:
- Crib now: confirm the exact crib model, finish, mattress requirements and included hardware.
- Toddler or daybed later: identify the matching manufacturer gate and the instructions for that exact crib.
- Double bed later: include the 54-inch mattress, box spring or bunkie board specified by the maker, plus the correct conversion rails and footboard configuration.
Buy a future conversion component only when its model compatibility is explicit. A similar colour name or a 54-inch rail from another collection is not evidence that the hardware fits.
Keep the crib decision separate from decoration
Health Canada says a baby's crib should have a firm, flat mattress with a tightly fitted sheet and no gaps between the mattress and crib sides. The sleep space should remain free of soft items such as pillows, bumper pads, quilts, toys and positioners, and the crib should be placed away from blind cords and electrical cords.
That guidance matters when comparing these styled rooms. The headboard is not permission to add coordinating cushions or bumpers. Plan wall art, curtains, monitor cables and lamps around a clear crib zone, not over or within reach of the sleep space. Assemble and use the crib according to the exact manufacturer instructions, including when to lower the mattress support.
Which Natart crib should you buy?
Buy Kyoto when the 55-by-31-inch footprint and 45-inch headboard fit a tighter room, the 46-inch matching dresser is a better wall-width match, and the bonded-leather or Talc-panel options suit the household.
Buy Taylor Convertible when the room comfortably fits 60 by 33 inches, the 49-inch headboard is a deliberate design choice, and the household values the future double-bed path enough to plan the separate components.
Buy Taylor Island instead when Taylor's collection appeals but the high headboard and larger convertible footprint do not. Its 54-by-29-inch form is smaller than Kyoto's floor size, but it has a different visual openness and later-stage path.
Choose the exact crib whose floor rectangle, matching storage and later parts all fit the same plan. Let the headboard style break a tie after that, not hide a room-fit problem.
