Plan for different parts of a family outing with playards, outdoor mats and portable seating at baby enRoute. These products serve different purposes: a picnic mat creates a place to sit outdoors, a playard provides a contained play area, and a bouncer is for supervised awake time.

Compare the setup you actually need

• Playards and travel sleep options: Check folded size, setup, included components and the instructions for each configuration. A playard's bassinet attachment has separate limits from the main play area.
• Outdoor mats: Compare dimensions, packing method, cleaning instructions and the surfaces the mat is intended for.
• Bouncers and seats: Check the child's stage, restraint instructions and where the product can be placed. These are not substitutes for a sleep space.

Can every travel crib or playard be used for overnight sleep?

Do not decide by the product name, price or mattress thickness. Check the exact Canadian model and configuration against its instructions and Health Canada's safe-sleep guidance. In Canada, playpens are not recommended for unsupervised sleep. Do not add an extra mattress or padding to a playard; a picnic mat or bouncer should not be used as an infant sleep surface.
