Choose a nursery nightstand when it has a small, specific job: a reachable surface beside the caregiver's chair, enclosed storage for a few routine items, or a planned second life beside a child's bed. Choose more dresser space when folded clothing, linens and larger supplies still do not have a home. A nightstand is a station; it is not a compact substitute for a dresser.
Matching the crib is a reasonable finishing preference, but it should come after function. The useful questions are where the piece will stand, which items it will hold, whether its top height works from the chair or future bed, and whether it can stay away from the crib and its cords.

The Palo Nightstand, SKU 13070, measures 23.75 x 19.5 x 25.5 inches. The Palo Double Dresser 56, SKU 13036, measures 55.75 x 19.5 x 35.25 inches. Natart publishes those figures on its Palo nightstand page and Palo dresser page.
The two pieces have the same published depth, but the nightstand uses 32 fewer inches of wall width. That saved width is the nightstand's advantage. The dresser reserves the longer wall for the room's main clothing-storage job and provides a broader top. The nightstand's smaller exterior does not tell you how much will fit inside each drawer.
If the room has only one good furniture wall, make the choice in this order: first reserve enough clothing storage, then decide whether the remaining 23.75-inch-wide section has a genuine surface or bedside job. Buying both because they match can leave the nursery short of walking space without solving a new problem.
Three jobs that justify a nightstand
A seated caregiver surface
A nightstand can earn its footprint beside a feeding or reading chair when the dresser is not comfortably reachable from that seat. The top can hold a closed water bottle for the adult, a book or a small group of supplies while the caregiver is seated. Keep hot drinks elsewhere, and do not let the surface become a parking place for small objects that will later be within a mobile child's reach.
Top height matters more than the collection name here. Measure the chair arm and the intended reach from the floor, then compare that number with the nightstand height. A piece that is several inches below or above the comfortable reach point may look coordinated but still fail as a chair-side station.
A small closed-storage station
Use the drawers for a short, repeatable list: clean burp cloths, a feeding log, spare adult nursing accessories or bedtime books. If the list expands into sleepers, swaddles, towels, sheets and multiple clothing sizes, the job has crossed into dresser territory. The dividing line is not the baby's age; it is whether the contents are a small routine kit or the room's main folded inventory.
A later bedside role
A nightstand is easier to justify when it already has a planned position beside a later bed. A matching Palo nightstand can later move beside a full bed, as shown in the room scene above. If the future room will not use a bedside table, judge the purchase only on the nursery job.
Choose the top height and footprint
The five linked Natart nightstands occupy a narrow size band, but their differences are large enough to change how the top meets a chair or bed.
Kyoto: the highest top in this group
The Kyoto Nightstand, SKU 12570, measures 24 x 20 x 26 inches according to Natart's Kyoto page. At 26 inches high, it is 5.75 inches taller than the Como options. Choose it when that higher top aligns with the intended chair or later bed and the full 24-inch width fits the wall.
Palo: nearly as high, with the shallowest depth
The Palo is 25.5 inches high and 19.5 inches deep. It is only half an inch lower than Kyoto and half an inch shallower than Kyoto or Como. That modest depth difference may matter beside a chair near a walking route, but the open-drawer projection is still unknown and needs to be allowed for.
Taylor: the narrowest, but also the deepest
The Taylor Nightstand, SKU 65070, measures 22 x 21 x 23.5 inches on Natart's Taylor page. It saves 2 inches of wall width compared with Kyoto, but it projects 1 inch farther into the room. Taylor is the useful candidate for the narrowest wall slot only when its 21-inch depth and drawer-use zone do not pinch the passage.
Como and Como Naturale: the lowest top
The Como Nightstand and Como Naturale Nightstand both use SKU 14070 and share published dimensions of 23.5 x 20 x 20.25 inches on Natart's Como and Como Naturale pages. They provide the lowest top in this comparison. Choose between their collection designs only after confirming that 20.25 inches is useful beside the actual chair or future bed.
Keep the nightstand out of the sleep space
A chair-side surface should not become crib-side furniture. Government of Canada safe-nursery guidance says to place the crib away from other furniture so a baby cannot use it to climb out. It also says cords from lamps, baby monitors, sound machines and other electronics must stay out of reach from the crib. Put the nightstand in the caregiver zone, route any cords away from the sleep space, and reassess the layout as the child becomes mobile.
Treat a nightstand as furniture that must remain stable, not as a lightweight accessory. Health Canada's furniture tip-over guidance advises following the manufacturer's assembly instructions and anchoring furniture to the wall with an anti-tip device. It also recommends keeping drawers closed when not in use and removing toys or other attractive objects from furniture tops so children are not encouraged to climb.
Make the decision
Choose a nightstand when the chair or future bed needs a reachable surface, a small routine kit belongs in its drawers, and the piece has a safe wall position away from the crib. Kyoto and Palo suit a higher target surface, Taylor saves the most wall width, and Como or Como Naturale provides the lowest top.
Choose more dresser space when the room still lacks a home for folded clothing and linens, when the existing dresser cannot handle the main storage job, or when the nightstand would be purchased only to complete a matching set. Browse the nursery furniture collection after deciding which job is missing; the answer should determine the piece, not the other way around.
