Shopping for a bedside sleep space, a stroller carrycot or a portable setup for visits? Start by separating the product's purpose from its appearance. This selection includes bassinets and carrycots alongside playard and travel-crib options; their configurations and permitted uses are not interchangeable.

Choose the setup, then check what is included

• Bassinet or carrycot: check the exact model's Canadian sleep-use instructions, the required support or stand, and whether those pieces are included. Stroller compatibility and permission for overnight sleep are separate questions.
• Playard with a bassinet attachment: identify the raised bassinet component and its own limits. It is different from the lower play area or a changing accessory.

Can every carrycot or playard be used for overnight sleep?

No. Health Canada distinguishes a compliant bassinet from a playpen or stroller accessory. Playpens are not recommended for unsupervised sleep in Canada, while a correctly assembled bassinet attachment has different guidance. Confirm the exact Canadian product and configuration before choosing it as a sleep space.

How long can my baby use the bassinet configuration?

Follow the earliest stop-use condition in its instructions, including weight and movement milestones. Do not assume the whole playard's age range applies to its bassinet attachment, or add another mattress to extend use.
