Choose the UPPAbaby Minu V3 if you want a built-in carriage mode or already plan to use one of its listed infant-car-seat adapter families. Choose the Bugaboo Butterfly 2 if you want a lay-flat stroller seat from birth, with the optional Bugaboo baby nest for added newborn comfort. Both are listed to 50 lb, and neither brand's cabin-travel language guarantees that your airline will accept the stroller on your specific flight.
Your next decision is not which stroller wins a general comparison. It is which newborn configuration you will use on day one, which extra pieces must travel with you, and whether the folded stroller fits the airline, trunk and storage spaces in your real route.

Route one: use the stroller seat from birth
Minu V3 carriage mode
UPPAbaby lists the Minu V3 from 0 to 50 lb and gives it two from-birth routes. The first is its built-in carriage mode. This is the simpler packing plan when you do not need to keep a sleeping baby in an infant car seat during the transition from vehicle to stroller, because no separate car-seat adapter is needed for that mode.
Before the first outing, use the current manual while practising the change between carriage mode and the later seat configuration.
Butterfly 2 lay-flat seat and baby nest
Bugaboo lists the Butterfly 2 from birth, with lay-flat and fully upright seat angles. The optional Bugaboo baby nest is the brand's added-comfort newborn accessory. This route keeps the baby in the stroller rather than on an infant car seat attached to the frame, but the nest is another item to budget and pack if it is part of your plan.
Route two: move an infant car seat onto the stroller
Minu V3 supports adapters for UPPAbaby Mesa and Aria infant seats and select Maxi-Cosi, Nuna and CYBEX infant seats. Butterfly 2 is also car-seat compatible, with adapters required. Compatibility is model-specific: match the exact infant-seat model and generation to the current adapter instructions rather than relying on the brand name alone.
A car-seat travel system can reduce transfers during short errands, but it adds an adapter and infant seat to the packing plan. Confirm whether the stroller can fold with your chosen adapters installed, and follow the infant-car-seat and stroller manuals for limits, attachment checks and use.
Newborn-use boundaries to settle before the first trip
Minu V3 is listed from 0 to 50 lb and its built-in carriage mode is the no-adapter newborn route. Butterfly 2 is listed from birth, and its user guide directs parents to use the most reclined seat position for a newborn; Bugaboo recommends the baby nest for added newborn comfort.
For an infant-car-seat setup, the stroller and adapter have a separate boundary. Bugaboo's Butterfly 2 adapter guide sets a maximum child-and-car-seat use limit of 13 kg and requires the attachment devices to be checked before use. UPPAbaby and Bugaboo both require the infant car seat to be removed before the stroller is folded. The current Minu V3 adapters are designed to fold down with the stroller; Butterfly 2 adapter instructions say to remove the adapters before folding.
A complete door-to-gate route
- At home: choose one configuration for the outbound leg. Install only the exact adapter named for the stroller, infant seat and model generation. Practise attaching, tug-checking, removing and folding it.
- At the vehicle: decide where the baby will be while the stroller is unfolded and loaded. Follow the exact adapter instructions: remove Mesa Max before folding Minu V3, and remove both the infant seat and adapters before folding Butterfly 2.
- From curb to check-in: keep travel documents and liquids outside the stroller basket if they must be removed at screening. Count the adapter, nest, rain cover and travel bag as separate pieces unless they are confirmed to remain attached.
- At security: have a second safe holding plan for the child while the stroller is emptied and folded. For Minu V3, fold the compatible adapters down. For Butterfly 2, remove its car-seat adapters before folding.
- At the gate: compare the packed stroller with the airline's current allowance. A stroller may still be moved to the hold when cabin capacity is exceeded, even if its dimensions fit a general reference.

City day or flight day?
For a city day built around a car, an infant-seat adapter can reduce transfers between vehicle and stroller. If most outings start on foot, Minu carriage mode or Butterfly's most-reclined seat with the optional baby nest can reduce the number of hard pieces carried.
For a flight day, the simplest stroller configuration is not always the complete destination plan. A family that needs an infant car seat after landing still has to transport that approved seat even when the baby rides in carriage mode or a lay-flat stroller seat through the terminal. Decide separately how the baby rides in the airport, in the destination vehicle and during walks.
Carry-on fit: compare measurements, not the label
Minu V3 folds to 10 x 18 x 21.5 in; Butterfly 2 folds to 17.6 x 9.6 x 21.8 in. The shapes are close in their longest dimension but distribute depth and width differently. That matters when a sizer, travel bag or trunk opening is the constraint.
Both manufacturers use IATA-compatible or cabin-travel language. Airlines still set their own baggage rules, and acceptance can vary by route, fare, aircraft and remaining cabin space. Check the airline's current dimensions before every trip, measure the stroller inside any travel bag, and plan for gate checking if cabin storage is unavailable.
After the newborn stage: test the toddler routine
Both strollers have a 50 lb child limit. Minu V3 weighs 16.7 lb and has a 20 lb basket; Butterfly 2 weighs 16 lb and has a 17.6 lb basket. The 0.7 lb stroller-weight difference is small, while the 2.4 lb basket-capacity difference may matter if the stroller regularly carries groceries or a full day bag.
