Lounge on Wheels: Add a Vivace Seat or Buy a New Stroller?

If you already own Lounge on Wheels and like its Vivace chassis, adding the Vivace stroller seat is the first option to consider before replacing the whole stroller. You keep the frame, wheels, brake and basket you already use, but replace the infant-car-seat arrangement with a regular stroller seat. Buy a different stroller instead when the difficulty is the chassis itself: carrying it, packing it, or using it on your usual route.

There is also a specific limit that can bring this decision forward. The Canadian Lounge on Wheels instructions give a 22 lb / 10 kg maximum for a Primo Viaggio car seat used on the Vivace chassis. That is a stroller-configuration limit, separate from the car seat's use in a vehicle. Do not wait for a higher number on the infant car seat to decide when this on-chassis arrangement must end.

The part you need is a seat, not another travel system

The Peg Perego Vivace stroller seat is a separate purchase from the Lounge on Wheels bundle. Peg Perego lists the True Black seat separately in its Canadian seat catalogue. The Lounge on Wheels manual illustrates a separately sold regular seat on the Vivace chassis and gives limits for that combination. This is a change of the seating component, not a reason to purchase the infant car seat and base again.

Think of the resulting stroller as the same rolling platform with a different passenger arrangement. Changing the seat does not install larger wheels, replace a worn brake or turn the chassis into a lightweight travel stroller. That distinction is useful because you already have experience with the main part of the decision: whether this frame works in your doorway, vehicle and everyday walking routine.

If the chassis still works well and remains in good condition, the seat-only route avoids buying a second frame to perform the same job. If the frame is the source of the frustration, adding a seat may simply preserve it. A compact stroller that solves a genuine transport problem can be a better purchase than an accessory chosen only because it fits something you own.

Keep the two passenger limits separate

Vivace chassis with Primo Viaggio car seat
Maximum: 22 lb / 10 kg. The infant-car-seat arrangement has its own stopping point on the stroller.
Vivace chassis with regular seat
Maximum: 50 lb / 22.7 kg and 43 in / 110 cm. The chassis has an onward stroller-seat use; the infant-car-seat limit does not make the frame obsolete.

These figures appear together on page 6 of the USA/Canada Lounge on Wheels manual. The 22 lb limit is not a suggested age for moving to the stroller seat, and the 50 lb ceiling is not proof that a child of any age is ready for every seating position. Use the seat's instructions for the child's stage and setup; end a configuration when any applicable limit is reached.

This is why planning the next stroller arrangement before reaching the on-chassis limit is worthwhile. The need to stop using an infant car seat on the frame does not, by itself, mean the infant car seat must be retired from the car. Vehicle use has its own manual and fit requirements. Equally, buying a stroller seat does not solve the later purchase of a vehicle car seat: the two decisions serve different uses.

What carries over, and what needs a fresh look

With the same Vivace chassis, you retain the handle adjustment, wheels, rear suspension, brake and under-seat basket. Peg Perego's Canadian Lounge on Wheels page describes its height-adjustable handle, soft-ride wheels, rear shock absorbers and reinforced basket. These are existing chassis features, not upgrades purchased with the separate seat.

The regular seat changes the space occupied above the basket and the item you store with the frame. Judge the seat-attached arrangement rather than assuming the bare chassis's familiar storage shape tells the whole story. In particular, your bag still needs to be reachable beneath the seat. The chassis manual's basket allowance remains 7 kg / 15.4 lb; a new seat does not increase it.

The same logic applies to condition. A separate seat is useful for extending a sound stroller's role, not for repairing a damaged frame. The chassis instructions prohibit use with broken or missing parts. Resolve that problem before spending on the add-on, using genuine replacement parts and Peg Perego support where needed.

When another stroller earns its place

Choose a different stroller when it answers a problem that a seating change cannot. If lifting and compact transport are the reason you avoid taking the current chassis, compare the Peg Perego Volo as a complete alternative. Its Canadian specification lists a 12 lb stroller weight and a 17.5 × 9.75 × 19.75-inch folded shape, with an included travel bag. Those are changes to the entire transport package, not features that adding a Vivace seat supplies.

Conversely, do not buy an extra compact stroller merely because the infant-seat phase is ending. If you are happy with how the Vivace chassis handles your routes and fits your storage, a second complete stroller duplicates hardware you can continue using. Compare the seat-only purchase with the specific replacement you would otherwise choose, not with a vague idea that you must start over.

If the new requirement is two seated children, this is a different purchase again. A regular seat replacing the infant car seat creates another one-child arrangement; it is not an additional simultaneous passenger position. Browse the double stroller collection for that need rather than treating the Vivace seat as a double-conversion accessory.

The purchase we would make in each case

Keep the chassis and add the Vivace seat when the frame is sound, the existing push and storage arrangement suit you, and the next requirement is a regular seat for one child. The True Black Vivace seat is the relevant component. Match it to your Vivace chassis rather than ordering a similarly named City Loop seat or Ypsi Companion Seat.

Choose a new complete stroller when you need a materially different fold, carrying weight or passenger layout. Keep the working parts of the original travel system for the uses they still meet, but do not let an existing purchase decide every later one. The right next step is the smallest purchase that actually solves the new problem: sometimes one seat, sometimes a different stroller.
