Kuoma Boot Storage: Why a Shoe Box Beats a Plastic Bag

Putting Kuoma boots away for the season? For pairs with polyurethane (PU) soles, choose a shoe box rather than a plastic bag. Kuoma's care guidance explains that a tight plastic bag traps moisture in the soles, while a shoe box lets it evaporate. The storage choice matters even when the boots look clean.

Keep the boots out of the clothing bag

If winter clothes are going into sealed bags, give the boots their own place. Keep a suitable shoe box instead of buying a plastic boot-storage bag for this job. This is a material-specific recommendation for PU soles, not a claim that every shoe or storage container behaves alike.

A pair being saved for a younger sibling needs the same attention as one being kept for next winter. Do not pack away a known problem with the expectation that months in storage will fix it.

Clean for the model, then dry before packing

Find the care instructions on the hangtag or inside the shaft before washing. Kuoma gives different cleaning methods for fabric, soft-legged, felt and leather footwear; a washing instruction for another Kuoma model is not permission to machine-wash yours.

Let the boots dry at room temperature, removing the insoles to help drying. Do not speed the process up on a radiator or heated floor. Leave packing until the boots and removable insoles are dry, rather than putting damp components straight into the box.

When the box comes out again

Look over both boots and their insoles before the first outing. If you find damage or are unsure about the condition, ask Kuoma for advice; a tidy exterior or a previous season's fit is not a reason to ignore a problem.

A missing insole does not automatically mean buying new boots. Kuoma directs replacement-insole enquiries to its distributors and customer service. Give them the boot model and size so you can ask for the appropriate replacement, rather than choosing a generic insert by appearance.

If a new pair is needed, start with Kuoma Snowlock Black Spaceship or the children's winter boots collection. For a pair returning to daycare, the separate daycare winter-boot guide covers fit, closures and daily drying. Seasonal storage is one job; choosing a boot for today's child and routine is another.
